Welcome to Year 1's class page
Here you will find information about the curriculum, parent workshops and exciting learning your children are experiencing. You will also find a copy of the timetable and topic web attached to this page which is updated regularly.
This term, our class Christian Value is Forgiveness.
The children will have PE every Tuesday morning and Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has the correct kit for these sessions. They will need a white t-shirt, a pair of navy blue shorts and some black school pumps.
Reading is such an important factor in enhancing your child's learning and development. Therefore, we hope that you can join us in helping your child to develop a love for reading! We would appreciate it if you could read with your child at least three times a week. Your child can read their own books as well as their school reading books. We love hearing all about their favourite stories and sharing them with the class! Please write in their diary how they have got on with the book. Once we can see in their diary that they have read it twice, they can change their book.
Homework will be set weekly - 1 x Maths or Writing and 1 x Phonics. This will benefit your child's learning inside the classroom such as sentence formation, letter formation and phonics . We will also send a half termly topic homework - please send photos / videos etc on Class Dojo.
Our topic for Autumn term is called 'Take a walk in my shoes'.
We will be exploring our school in the past and present and delving into life in the past where we live.
I cannot wait to share this learning with you all.
A big thank you to all our parents who joined us for our Essential Letters and Sounds session: Below is some of the amazing feedback we have received.
"I found it informative, and now at home I can use the same method." - Mrs L Bentley
"A really useful workshop - it was lovely to see the children so engaged and excited to learn phonics. Big thank you to Miss Burns for a great session. Thank you to Mr Heatley and all at St Johns for allowing us to visit your wonderful school. " - Mrs R Hayes and Mrs J Rigby
"A 5* session" - Mrs B Gabriels
For additional phonics support at home: you can read with your child, sounding out words they are unsure of and discussing the meaning of unfamiliar words. You can access previous screening tests from the GOV website. Also https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/freeIndex.htm has free game resources the children are used to playing in school.
By the end of Year 1, children are expected to be able to read and write these tricky words. Please practise these as much as possible at home. Thank you.
Your child will receive an independent log in, the password for all children is year1 and the school code is ecpv. If you require another copy of your log-in please let me know.
See free games on https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/ to practice phonic sounds at home.
